Sold Home

The last week has been a flurry of activity in my soon to be ex-home in Bucks County. I have finished painting the walls, installed carpets, had inspections for the chimney, dryer vent and moved the last remnants of small belongings out of the house.  It is drastically barren on the interior, but the house itself looks awesome! I’ve very proud of the aesthetics of the house.  It looks the way, I’ve always envisioned it looking, but alas it will no longer be mine. Positive news; however, is that after only five days of the house being on the market it is gone! We accepted a nice deal which will hand my keys over to a nice young man who is purchasing his first house, as it was mine.

It’s funny when I think of someone else inhabiting this house.  Because I’m shocked at  how much I actually care what this person might change.  I like to think that I put a lot of time and effort into this house to make it look respectable and so quickly it will change hands and the very nature and character of this place will be changed. That thought is more than a little annoying, but such is the nature of life, and I have to get over it.  I’m determined that I need to go through the house to take some pictures of the interior so that I can remember, what I’ve done.

The other thing that I think is interesting, is that in the past two weeks my neighbors have spoken to me more about the sale of my house, then they had ever spoken to me about living in the neighborhood.  I don’t know why that is, but I assume it’s because they want to know how the sale of my house is going to effect their house. On that note, one guy even knew that I had settled before I had even told anybody!!!?? It just makes me think of this…

I always find it fascinating how neighbors, even though many times good intentioned, stalk their neighbors to find out what is going on. I’m not saying I’m not guilty from time to time, but other times it seems neighbors take on an unhealthy obsession with what goes on in the properties in proximity to them.

I remember a funny instance one year, where I was a junior in college and my parent’s new neighbor across the street came over to help me move the pool tarp, which I had been cleaning by hand. As he helped me move the tarp he began a conversation with me saying, “You know you wouldn’t have to do these chores if you would just move out!” I was shocked by his statement and I replied, “Well, I think that will happen once I finish college and until then I think I prefer the  sanctuary of home.”  He quietly shut his mouth realizing, I wasn’t a homeless college graduate, who had failed to launch, but a homeless college student. I’m sure he had a wonderful walk back across the street. I think those were the only words that man ever said to me?

I’m curious are there any other good/bad neighbor stories, that you have?
